Description
1980 Kansas City Royals American League Championship Ring
The ring features a blue stone with the “Royals” script logo, surrounded by the text “1980 American League Champions.” The left shank typically includes the recipient’s surname and position, along with imagery of Royals Stadium. The right shank displays the logos of the 1980 World Series and the Royals. Inside the band, the ring is stamped “10K Jostens,” indicating its composition and manufacturer.
- Billy Connors’ Ring: A unique version of the ring was presented to coach Billy Connors. In this edition, the blue center stone was replaced with diamond studs arranged to form Connors’ jersey number “36.” This alteration made the ring distinct from the standard issue.
-
Left shank: displays the recipient’s name (e.g., “White” or “Otis”) above an engraved depiction of Kauffman Stadium and a baseball, often with the player’s jersey number (e.g. “20” for Frank White, “5” for Amos Otis)
-
Right shank: showcases both the 1979–80 Royals logo and the 1980 World Series logo
-
This championship ring isn’t just a decorative piece—it’s a rich artifact of Royals history. Its layers—from Jostens craftsmanship to the personalized shank engravings—highlight roles within the organization: from executives and staff to standout players and coaches like Frank White and Billy Connors.
