2017 Carolina Minor Leagues

The 2017 Carolina League season was marked by notable player performances, organizational changes, and a unique conclusion due to external circumstances.

• Expansion Teams: The season saw the introduction of two new teams: the Down East Wood Ducks and the Buies Creek Astros, expanding the league to 10 teams
• Team Realignment: The Salem Red Sox moved from the South Division to the North Division, and the Carolina Mudcats switched affiliations from the Atlanta Braves to the Milwaukee Brewers.

• The 2017 season featured several top prospects who would go on to make significant impacts in Major League Baseball.

The Carolina League logo uses a unique burgundy-red custom script. The “C” sweeps into “League” in uppercase and includes a baseball in place of the “O,” set against bold white and yellow accents to help it pop. Down East Wood Ducks  their retro neon-style wordmark nods to North Carolina diner signage; and the logo features the colorful wood duck native to the region on the MLB parent club’s aesthetic with minimal alterations Lynchburg Hillcats,  Introduced a modernized hillcat head logo in blue and green, symbolizing local heritage, including the “seven hills” motif
